When crafting a residential development, balancing aesthetics and functionality with the elements of a distinctive design concept often has its limitations given the constraints in space.  But a fine illustration of how this can be achieved was recently cited at the 5” Annual Property Guru Philippines Property Awards — a prestigious industry citation that is known for providing a benchmark of excellence in real estate.

Robinsons Residences’ The Sapphire Bloc condominium development, located at Ortigas Center in Pasig City, won the “Best Residential Interior Design” award. The 5th Annual Property Guru Philippines Property Awards is part of the regional Property Guru Asia Property Awards that was established in 2005.

The regional awards program is deemed as the biggest and most respected real estate awards program in Asia, with its reputation of recognizing only the best developers and developments at the domestic and regional level.

Contemporary Art Deco

The award-winning The Sapphire Bloc’s four-tower, high-rise residential development is distinctive for its 1920s’ Art Deco-inspired design that is reinvented to suit the needs of the modern urban dweller.

The ingenious rendition focused on making Art Deco practical and stylish, while staying true to the elements of the design theme that gave the development its trademark modern comfort and luxury. It celebrates Art Deco through chevron art, sleek contemporary furniture, rectilinear forms, and metal inlays that are infused throughout the development.

One of the many highlights of the project is the grand lobby, which boasts of a 5.5-meter-high ceiling, an indoor garden, and intricate floor patterns that are surrounded by geometric wrought iron designs and sleek contemporary furniture.

Near the lobby and elevator is the residents’ lounge which serves as a transitional space and meet up area for homeowners and guests.

The Sapphire Bloc also has amenities for residents.  The children’s play area is filled with colorful geometric shapes with playful patterns and illustrations of animals. Industrial drop lights and saturated colors accentuate the fitness gym and the game room, while off-white shades and soft fabric-colored walls are utilized in the sauna and massage room.

Other common spaces use vivid and high contrast artworks as bold accents. Setbacks were used as arcades, and glass canopies surround the commercial areas that give shade and protection from the sun. At the drop-off area, a sky roof lets the natural sunlight in.

For its award-winning design, Robinsons Residences sought the expertise of interior designer Frenjick Quesada of Design HQ (Hirayama + Quesada) to recreate Art Deco in ways that reflect the superlative facets of city-living to meet the uncompromising tastes of dynamic professionals and urban dwellers.
